It's ironic. Sometimes i feel like i am back in China. Everywhere i go, i simply need to start speaking Chinese. Strangers will ask me for directions, I heard the Chinese accent on MRTs, I dine at restuarants and need to place my orders in Chinese else the service staff will hell not know what i want, I head shopping and need to request for new items in yes, Chinese.I think we are heading back to the early 1900s, where migrants made up most of the population. They bring their own language, thoughts, culture and gradually assimilate into the population, creating a brand new world altogether. Last night, I had the chance to head off early from work and we decided to head out for dinner together. Boy, the service staff in the Japanese restuarant were made up of the C-pack. Orders were made in Chinese, requests to top up water was in the C language, even when u paid the bill, u hear the accent. Pity i didn't get a chance to sneak a peek into the kitchen as for all u know, the cooks are the C-pack too!
Today, i had some time over lunch so boarded the train to try my luck at the Mango sale & yes, the C-pack were around the fitting room. Regardless if it's staff or customers, they were just everywhere...
At work, it's an international bunch that sometimes, i find it rare to locate a Singaporean in the crowd. Really makes me feel like a stranger in my own land... I hold a red passport yet, locating another red passport in the crowd is a rarity.
