I went for a pedicure this morning at this new shop in Boat Quay. Wonder how they got my no. but they called to introduce their new personal beauty services and had an opening promotion for their pedicure services - only $6, using OPI products! Since KL wasn't in town, i decided to be a taitai wannabe and refresh the colour of my toenails! The shop's decor was really tasteful. The chandeliers and muralled wallpaper added to its opulence interior and well, their nailbar had a vast array of the OPI nailcolours. I love OPI. Their nailcolours are somehow more lasting than the standard ones.
Since it's an "opening promotion" that i went for, i was kinda prepared that there'd be agressive sale pitches for their nail packages. Of course, i hated packages esp for services that i hardly go for so it was a polite NO all the way.
In comes the yaya angmo. U might wonder why i confer the term. Well, this English pretty lad spoke confidently and introduced himself as the boss of the chain. Chatted with me & asked where i was working etc. When he knew that i was doing Marketing for the Bank, this guy just started throwing out names of supposedly some top Marketing Head and asked if you know so and so. The conversation continued with him blaring about the business and that he'll be opening 8 other nailbars islandwide, and that i should try his Brazillian, that he guarantee will be the "best" i will ever have! Yadadada.... all the way, throwing names of so & so, telling me how many consultancies he had etc.
Boy, i was real bored but had to play along... Sometimes i wonder why these folks are so yaya. Was he expecting me to be in awe that he was going to have tea with some hot shot of the Bank & travelling to London to meet so & so? Duh! Get a grip!!! I was just there for a "trial" so stop harassing me on who u rub shoulders with!
He'll be the deterrent. stopping me to head back for another nail service. Wonder if it's becoz of the cultural differences that made him so yaya. Don't they know what's being humble? Such a put off! Apart from the lovely nail colour on my toenails and the opulent decor of the place, i will not be inclined to head back again.
